Samsung Canada turns cracked-screen visuals into a jab at Apple’s foldable iPhone

A family photograph interrupted by a glowing pink line is Samsung Canada’s latest way of talking about foldable phones.
The campaign uses simulated display damage to promote the Galaxy Z Fold8, pairing familiar lifestyle imagery with a pointed reminder: “Folding is nothing new to us.”
Launched in late October 2026, the work responds to reports of inner-display problems affecting some iPhone Duo owners. Samsung leaves its rival unnamed in the creative, allowing the damaged-screen effect to make the connection.
A bright line interrupts an ordinary moment
One social execution shows a child sitting beside a dog on the grass. A dark vertical line runs through the photograph, while a vivid pink streak extends across its lower portion.
The image initially reads as an everyday memory. The interruption changes its meaning, drawing attention to the display through which that memory might be viewed.
The effect is deliberately simulated campaign artwork. It evokes a screen fault while keeping the photograph itself recognisable.

“We know a thing or eight”
The copy turns Samsung’s experience in foldables into the central selling point.
Alongside “Folding is nothing new to us,” another execution reads: “Folding. We know a thing or eight.” The wordplay points to the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the company’s successive generations of folding phones.
The invitation then becomes explicit: “Switch to Galaxy Z Fold8.”
A Samsung spokesperson described the work as a playful campaign about competition and experience in the foldable category. Its argument is about familiarity with the format, expressed through a short line and an instantly noticeable visual interruption.
The joke travels on mobile billboards
The campaign also moved onto truck-mounted digital billboards.
The outdoor execution shows a person floating in a yellow swimming ring, with the photograph divided by the same screen-damage treatment. Samsung’s logo, the folding-experience line and the switching message sit alongside it.
Mobile billboards appeared in Toronto and Vancouver on October 30, with Montreal included in the announced weekend rollout. The format carried the social creative into public view, giving the visual joke a larger canvas.
Turning a product problem into a switching message
The campaign draws on reported problems with some iPhone Duo inner displays. Apple said the issue affected a small number of units and directed affected customers to AppleCare for replacements.
Samsung’s imagery turns that conversation into advertising, although it does not establish a comparative failure rate or prove that its own devices cannot develop faults.
The creative’s force comes from timing: it links a competitor’s difficult launch conversation to a product people can switch to.
