Canva lets you erase your ex—and bring them back when they text

Share

Removing an ex from a photograph is one thing. Deciding to keep them out is another.

Canva turns that change of heart into the punchline of “Erase Your Ex,” a film in its new North American campaign, “What Will You Canva Today?”

Created by Goodby Silverstein & Partners, the campaign uses everyday comedies to demonstrate what people can make, edit and print on the platform.

One text undoes the breakup edit

The film follows a woman editing former boyfriends out of her photographs. Then an “I miss you” message arrives, and her resolve changes.

She hits Undo, restores the photograph and posts it.

The joke gives a product action an emotional reason. Erasing and restoring become part of the character’s indecision, allowing the demonstration to unfold through the story.

It is also an economical way to show that creating an image can involve trying something, reconsidering it and changing your mind.

A coffee shop and a promposal extend the idea

Two further films bring the platform into different situations.

“New Drink” follows a coffee shop team working through ideas for a menu addition. Once they settle on a lavender latte, they create and print its promotional poster together.

“Promposal” centres on a teenager whose invitation to the school dance needs repeated revisions. His friend keeps reporting which potential dates are already taken, sending him back to change the sign before printing the final version.

Across the three stories, the task keeps evolving. Canva becomes the place where people respond to those changes, whether they are making a personal post, a business promotion or an invitation.

Canva turns its name into an action

“What Will You Canva Today?” updates the familiar question, “What will you design today?”

The new wording is intended to broaden people’s understanding of the platform beyond a single kind of design task. Photo editing, collaboration and printed materials each get a role in the campaign.

The first television spot aired during NBC Sunday Night Football on November 1, 2026.

Outdoor portraits capture people mid-creation

The wider campaign includes social, radio and outdoor work, with outdoor placements in New York and San Francisco.

Portraits featuring 11 user personas catch people concentrating, including tongue-out expressions. Teachers, students and job seekers supply the subjects, bringing attention to the person making the work as well as the finished result.

Those portraits extend the films’ emphasis on personal choices: the project matters because someone has a reason to make it.
