Greene King sends a beer sliding through centuries of mishaps

Sliding a beer along a bar looks simple until it goes wrong. Greene King’s “Beer Slide” takes that small act of pub theatre and gives it centuries of practice.
Created by Neverland, the campaign moves through historical settings as successive attempts fail to deliver the perfect slide. Medieval taverns, Napoleonic warships and England’s 1966 World Cup victory provide the changing backdrops before the beer finally lands correctly in a present-day Greene King pub.
The film supports the brewery’s “Legendary Beers, Centuries in the Making” platform, using a running joke to express the time and effort behind its beers.

One action holds the journey together
The beer slide gives the story a clear thread. The setting changes, but the ambition stays the same: get the drink safely to the person waiting for it.
Each attempt introduces another opportunity for things to go wrong. That repetition builds an expectation, letting the film move quickly between eras without needing to explain a new premise each time.
It also makes the eventual successful delivery a useful ending. The present-day pub becomes the place where the long-running problem is finally resolved.
The humour gives the heritage message a physical form. Time is expressed through repeated attempts at a recognisable skill, making the platform line part of the action.
History provides the scale, the pub provides the payoff
Greene King dates its brewing heritage to 1799. The film’s wider journey through English history uses familiar cultural settings to create a playful world around that heritage.
The beer remains the subject as the scenery changes. That helps the campaign draw attention to Greene King as a brewer, giving the product a role beyond the pub name.
A recreated 17th-century Latin aria accompanies the journey, with its lyrics reworked to sing about beer. The grand musical treatment adds another layer to the deliberately modest task of moving a drink across a surface.
A short film leads a wider campaign
Directed by Noah Harris through Agile Films, the production began with a single studio shoot day, with post-production completing the historical environments.
The 30-second hero film leads activity across video, social and outdoor in the UK and Ireland. Media planning comes from the7stars.
The central beer slide supplies a compact idea for that wider work. It is easy to recognise, connects directly to the drinking occasion and gives the brand’s message a clear destination: a beer arriving in someone’s hand.
