People Are the Best: Reddit made human conversation its first US brand campaign

Reddit has spent more than twenty years being difficult to explain in one line. People Are the Best finds the answer inside the people using it. Created by Mischief and directed by Fiona McGee through Arts & Sciences, Reddit’s first US brand campaign turns the strange, useful and deeply specific conversations inside its communities into the product being advertised.
The Product Is the Conversation
Reddit is selling the moment when a stranger knows exactly what you need.
Someone arrives with a question about a skincare ingredient, a television ending or a football argument. The useful answer may solve the immediate problem. However, the reason the exchange feels different is that another person has taken the time to explain it, challenge it or add something nobody expected.
That behaviour gives People Are the Best its central thought. Interests bring people into Reddit. Meanwhile, the personalities behind the usernames make them stay.
The campaign does not need to explain subreddits, voting systems or community rules. Instead, it makes a simpler promise. Whatever you care about, someone else cares enough to have a real conversation about it.
As a result, Reddit becomes less like one enormous website and more like a collection of rooms where the right person might already be talking.
Three Doors Into Reddit
The campaign opens through three films built around beauty, television and football. Each subject has a large audience, but each also contains endless smaller questions that only another fan would understand.
Beauty can begin with a product recommendation and quickly become a discussion about skin type, ingredients and years of trial and error. Similarly, television brings theories, character debates and tiny details that viewers keep thinking about after an episode ends. Football creates its own language of tactics, history, loyalty and arguments that never really finish.
Together, the three subjects show the range Reddit wants to claim. More importantly, they move the platform beyond the technology and gaming communities that shaped its early reputation.
In fact, beauty and entertainment are important choices for a wider US campaign. They introduce Reddit as a mainstream place for everyday interests while keeping the depth that makes its communities useful.
Still, the films are not really selling the subjects themselves. They are selling the pleasure of finding people who care at the same level you do.
A Brand Campaign for an Anonymous Platform
Reddit’s anonymity creates an unusual advertising problem. The platform is powered by people, yet those people often arrive as usernames rather than public identities.
That said, People Are the Best turns the anonymity into an advantage. The campaign celebrates what users contribute instead of asking who they are, how many followers they have or what their profiles look like.
At the same time, the timing gives the line extra weight. Search tools and AI products increasingly turn human conversations into quick summaries. Reddit is making the emotional case for the original exchange. The answer matters, but so does the person who lived through the experience, formed the opinion or stayed awake thinking about the same strange question.
Meanwhile, Reddit itself has become an important source for those systems because its communities contain years of detailed human discussion. More importantly, the campaign brings that value back to its origin. People wrote the posts. People gave the advice. People made the internet useful.
It is a broad brand argument. Even so, it comes from something Reddit can credibly own.
What Made It Different
“People are the best” could belong to almost any community platform. Therefore, the films have to earn the line by making those people specific.
Mischief does that by focusing on the small signs of obsession that turn an interest into a community. In fact, the campaign is at its best when it feels like it understands why someone would ask strangers a question they cannot ask anywhere else.
That gives Reddit a warmer public face without sanding away its oddness. The platform remains full of niche knowledge, strong opinions and conversations that take unexpected turns. However, the campaign frames those qualities as evidence of human generosity.
The first rollout covers television, streaming, outdoor and social placements in New York and Chicago. After that, more US markets are expected to follow in the coming months.
For now, Reddit has found a clear way to introduce itself. The platform is enormous, complicated and often chaotic. Still, the reason to enter is one person answering another.
